What a wonderful response I have received for the newsletter. Since last
week when I introduced the group to "the net" we have had 38 people sign on.
Their Internet domains range from .uk, .fi, .ca, .au, .se and the U.S.
Welcome to all! Please send messages for discussion for the next digest.
What a resource we can be to each other to keep up with the activity of
Daniel Lanois.

Input for the web pages can also be sent to the lanois@usfca.edu address
without fear of the message being posted to the whole group.

Subject: New album or tour?

Hi:

I'm a mega-Lanois fan. I saw him a few years back in SF, CA.
Is he ever going to put out a legitimate live recording of the shows?
What about further touring? He said he was really into the live sound
nowadays, so I figured I'd have the opportunity to see him again soon.
Any word on a tour coming thru Colorado or a new album?

Thanks, Chris!

Hey, thanks for the Lanois related stuff you are doing on the net!

The big question is - does Lanois have an email address?????

Thanks again, looking forward to the list!

Hi Folks,

Great to see there are other Lanois fans out there!

I managed to tape this show on Lanois off a local public TV station in
Australia a couple of years ago and it was during the sessions for Wynoma
that there was this great song "Need somebody to love?".

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if it's available somewhere?

Regards,

Brian

I'm just wondering how Emmy Lou Harris's wrecking ball stands in relation to
other Lanois projects. I'm not normally into Country, but this sounds very
interesting, like a real crossover project. If the generally favourable
reviews in UK magazines are anything to go by.

In "Q" magazine a while back, there was an interview with ELH, with a
beautiful photo of her seated in Lanois' New Orleans home, where the
recording was done. Lying next to the chair was this imperious Weimaraner
hound, both of them together looking like a modern-day take on Cleopatra and
her cats. A really memorable image. Beautiful house, too.

Any comments?

Subject: New solo album?

I saw an interview (here in Canada) where Daniel Lanois was recording a new
album in Mexico(this was a year ago...) I haven't heard anything about it
ever since. I'm interested in joining any Lanois newsgroup/newsletter...
could you please send me some info.

I'm not sure if you're aware that Lanois also was part of a group
that released a single(kind of a compilation group) The group
included The Tragically Hip(Canada) Crash Vegas(Canada) Hothouse
Flowers(irish I think) and Midnight Oil. I sent a message to the
lanois site but I guess you are in charge so maybe I'll ask you
about joining any form of Lanois club/newsgroup etc...If you could
drop me a line, I would much appreciate it.
Thanks, Dale.

Subject: recent Daniel Lanois activity in California

Those of us in California were fortunate to have DL come through for a mini
tour. He played at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, House of Blues
in Los Angeles and at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. It
was the same band he toured with a couple of years ago in support of For the
Beauty of Wynona (FtBoW). At the San Francisco show (I'm not sure on the
rest), Emmylou Harris came out about half way through and played 5 or 6
songs off her new CD. It was a great show! Daniel's set included more from
Acadie than he had included on his FtBoW tour. I also seem to remember him
playing a new tune or two.

Then, we in San Francisco were lucky _again_ to have Emmylou and her band
(Daniel Lanois/Darryl Johnson) play at the annual acoustic Bridge School
Benefit at Shoreline Amphitheatre (20k people). What great exposure for
Daniel Lanois; his name was on the shirts even. Anyway, they played four
songs, three of hers and The Maker.

Did he play anywhere else in the country on this tour with Emmylou?

Oh, if you don't have the Emmylou CD, BUY IT! It is definitely a Daniel
Lanois CD.

                    Kenley
