Storyville was bounded by Iberville, St Louis, North Robertson (hey hey!)
and Basin streets, so the books tell me.
It is indeed very near the Quarter, North-West of it, which is not a nice
idea when you are having a great time in the relatively safe Quarter! Indeed
in those days things weren't all that good either, but at least they had
pretty good music to listen to!

Sorry, and this really was the last bit about all this, for you who are
finding all this too boring to be true! I can't help having fallen in love
with the Big Easy, but shouldn't be going on about it in public eh?

Love,
Marja

Joe thanks Daniel Lanois on his latest album entitled "Trampoline"...I
believe he did some of the recording at Kingsway; the rest he did in his
garage. For those unfamiliar with his work: he was, up until now, quite
"country" based. His previous album "Kindness to the World" was a great
release, and also was entirely recorded @ Kingsway (produced by himself).
"Trampoline" is a radical departure from his original sound...drum loops and
strange samples are present. I think Joe was very courageous in this release,
and anyone seeking a new and different sound might what to give it a
listen..great lyrics combined with very interesting song structure.....Bye
for now!

I've been readings the previous newsletters, there are some
people asking about Lanois' studio techniques. There is a
very good article in the June 1993 Guitar Player Magazine
called "Great Home Recordings". Lanois tells how he uses
specific piece of equipments: amps, guitars, etc.

Regards,

Juani

Great page about Daniel LAnois, thanks. I'm sending you a song that I've
checked, and where I saw couple of small mistakes (As I make a lot in
english). (French-québecois is not easy)

O Marie

Il y a quelqu'un qui appelle mon nom (2X)
On travail aujourd'hui, on travaille sous la pluie
On travaille au tabac, hostie
(In Québec, we say hostie as you might say fuck in english. Hostie is what
we are given in catholic churches as a reminder of Jesus body (the little
white thing we eat at the ceremony- sorry I don't know the word in english).

Mes mains sont noires à cochon (2X)
trente jours, et trente nuits
On travaille au tabac hostie

Oui ma blonde elle attend après moi (2X)
(Yes, ma blonde means my girlfriend (generally went your not married to her)
even if she's not blonde)

Je vais retourner avec beaucoup d'argent
On travail au tabac, hostie

Oh driver donne moi une chance (2X)
Avez-vous du feu pour ma cigarette
On travaille au tabac et le hostie

Ce soir, on va au village (Oui, 2X)
Chanter la chanson, boire la boisson
On travail au tabac, hostie

O Marie, j'ai mal à la tete (2X)
Donnez-nous l'esprit, l'esprit du corps
On travaille au tabac, Marie

Le bleu (maybe dieu)no it's really bleu du ciel a changé (Oui, 2X)
Après quarante jours et quarante nuits
On ne peut pas travailler au tabac

Il y a quelqu'un qui appelle mon nom (2X)
On travaille aujourd'hui, on travaille sous la pluie
On travaille au tabac.
