[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] From: Kenley Subject: note from the editor Just a brief note to thank all of you that are keeping this group going! I enjoy putting it together and reading other people's thoughts on Daniel Lanois, what he does and how he influences the world around us. Please keep the thoughts coming; at this point topics are wide open since we don't have a whole lot of traffic going. Elie"Subject: News on Daniel Lanois Merci pour la belle page (thanks for this great page), I live in Montreal, quebec and work in the music and showbusiness industry... That looks so serious! Anyway i had a chance to talk with Russel, the bassist in the canadian band Junkhouse. He was coming back from California where he had just recorded a movie soundtrack with Daniel Lanois. I don't remember the name of the movie (sorry!) but i know it is supposed to come out this summer... Russel also told me Daniel was working on a new solo album. I just thought you would be interested! A bientot! We were at the Emmylou show in NJ last Dec. Bruce was in the audience. There was a rumor that DL and Springsteen were in discussions about a joint project. Any truth and/or embellishments to this rumor? [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] From: ElevenShad@aol.com Date: Mon, 27 May 1996 15:19:31 -0400 Subject: Lanois' 12-track? Slightly techno-geek questions -- beware!! :) There was an article that I read about DL in "Home and Studio Recording" quite a few years back that stated that he did a lot of his initial guitars on an Akai 12-track, and eventually transferred them to 24-track, and some of those guitar instrumentals that he recorded on the Akai formed the basis for what became his first solo album. I was wondering if anyone knew what songs those were, whether he still has the 12-track or not, and exactly which 12-track it was (Akai made the MG1212, MG1214, 14D rackmount, and a digital machine called the A-DAM). I record on a 12-track myself, so I am especially curious! My guess is that it would be the analogue rackmount version so he could use his own mic preamps, but he may have used the digital for this as well. Does he still use this machine? Thanks! -Ken/Eleven Shadows [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Fri, 31 May 1996 17:48:25 -0700 From: 21113@ef.gc.maricopa.edu Subject: It's Lanois-esque! :) Unfortunately no direct Lanois news, but I (finally!) picked up the new Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan CD (Night Song) and I have to say that it has knocked Emmylou's CD out of the top spot of my "Greatest albums ever made" list - at least for now... :) Michael Brook worked on this one and it is SO VERY Lanois-esque in some parts it's scary. Beautiful, beautiful music, and of course Nusrat's voice is incredible. I'd HIGHLY suggest checking this one out - especially those who are apprehensive about checking out some world music. This might even get you to try some of Nusrat's more traditional stuff! :) I bought it on the last day of my vacation and listened to it while driving back home through Utah/Arizona - no traffic, the moon lighting the already eerie Monument Valley, stars...
