Hello Everyone,
mbfah said there were rumors of Springsteen & Dan working together.
I sat a few seats away from him at the Emmylou show at the Count Basie
Theatre in Red Bank last November.
I was told that Dan agreed to meet with Bruce.( This is the first
step.) I have heard nothing further. The individuals who shared this are
friends of Emmylou's and were backstage at this show.
I looked over at Springsteen a few times that night. I was judging
him. If I could see a sense of respect for Dan in the way he responded to
guitar work etc., I would have respect for him. I don't much care for his
music myself. I like Dylan, and perhaps you might understand what this
implies. Of interest is that Bruce's mouth hung open when Dan stretched out
on guitar. I got the sense he was genuinely moved. Good. He should be.
A Lanois/ Springsteen project would get my interest because of
Lanois, same as Emmylou's record . No disrespect intended, just my truth.
At least he didn't reform the dreadful E Street Band. Joad is respectable
because of it's working class sentiments. I reviewed it for the local paper.
I was the only favorable review of the five I read in Jersey papers.
Interestingly, I couldn't get press access to any Bruce show's at
the time because Bruce's "people" (whoever they are) didn't like that I
mentioned a bootleg tape in my review! Unproffessional is what I was
called. It was a positive reference to a live acoustic show. Fuck them I
say. Now I will mention his bootlegs in every piece I write.
Speaking of BOOTLEGS !!!, anybody have live Lanois? I know Somebody
must have taped somewhere? I have much good live music to trade.....
        Peace, eclark@monmouth.com

Yes, Night Song is top of my playlist too at the moment and has an
incredible feel to it - the synergy (oops! one too many beers here? - using
long words) between the vocal and the background mood is quite unlike
anything I've heard before. My dream at the moment is to hear DL retouch
some of Mike Oldfields Instrumentals - now that would be magic n'est pas?

Greetings,

A while ago in the summer of '95, driving down the Jasper highway,
the CBC had a interesting 1 hour program on Danny :>. Danny said
even though he was very happy with the Oh Mercy album, he said he
was also very sad because Bobby has never had a number 1 single and
there was one on the Oh Mercy Album. Danny goes on to say that
Bobby would not let him put it on the Album. A few months later I
heard the song at a friends place in Montreal. It was a bit U2ish,
Dylanish and Lanoisish....

The Question is anyone else has anything to add to this ? Where is
the track that would have given Bobby a number 1 hit ? Any Lanois
bootlegs available ?

Kenley + Acadiens,

I have realized that some of the lyrics are have not yet been
updated, I believe that is because our editor is quite busy.
So I would propose myself to perform such a task.

This is how it could work: I will post the one or two song lyrics
per week, then we could discuss any additions, changes (including
mispellings, punctuation, etc.). Later, when all modifications
will have been made, I will repost the final version so
Kenley could update the web page related to that (those) lyric(s).
What do you think?

Regards,

Juani

[Juani, while I think this is a great idea, another person on the list
is working on the lyrics. Perhaps this can be changed though and
there can be more joint work. A discussion of what to do can occur
on the list. The other person involved is Ant (21113@ef.gc.maricopa.edu).
Please contact him directly or we will talk about it on the next digest.
I actually kind of like your idea because it is collaborative.]

*  Here's a tidbit of unnecessary information:

The guy counting in the beginning of "Goodbye" off Emmylou's
"Wrecking Ball" is Steve Earle. Gotta love that accent when
        he says "four"!

*  Here's a question of unnnecessary purpose:

Who is saying the overlapping "three"?

I've not heard this, but I can say that Bruce's recent "Tom Joad" album
was in dire need of Lanois, in my opinion. :) Most of the songs were
interesting enough, but in listening to it, I just though it didn't
really "take off" the way it should have.

I've always thought that they would be a good collaboration, though - When
I first heard Bruce's "Human Touch" I thought it sounded very "U2-ish".

I also finally got Ron Sexsmith's album - I really like both versions of
"There's a Rhythm." As for the rest of the album - at first I thought it
was kind of quirky and didn't know what to think of it, but I listened to
it on headphones one night and decided I really like it. I guess
sometimes it takes a good, close listening to decide! :)

Plus I can't get the lyric for "There's a Rhythm" out of my head... And
is it just me, or does his voice sound rather "Jackson Browne" sometimes? :)

Great album - Nusrat is still in first place, though...
