[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] From: Kenley Subject: Message from the Editor Just in case you were worried that you missed a Digest, fear not. Nobody sent me any messages last week for the group and therefore there was not a Digest. Keep the conversation going; soon we may have something new to talk about. This week's is kind of short too. I found myself tangled in wire I found you there in my dream I found you in desire You had left the devil's bed, you had left the devil's bed... ***For The Beauty of Wynona The ingots are burning red I'm working time and a half Tomorrow I'll stay in bed, what a hell it is, what a life I burn my fingers, why don't you laugh with the rest who know it well I tripped and then I fell for the beauty of Wynona At night I toss and I turn and I try and dial your number It's changed and God only knows where you been since last December Where you been with that twisted smile throwing your mother in the pond Break him easy when he go down for the beauty of Wynona Girls they skip double dutch They saw you go, mama gone Our prayers don't mean nothin' much to the heart that cannot be won Tangled in your fishing net right here in my own bed Drowning in the tears I shed for the beauty of Wynona ***Rocky World My hands are wrapped in your raven hair in the faded picture on the back stair We were narrow, we were steady, trembling and ready to give it hell in this rocky world You said do I look like I could be a strong mother and raise the good side of a young daughter In the hotel Shangri-la, let me tell you I've been thinking of her in this rocky world Chicago is heavy but I can't turn around I'm smuggling that whiskey over flesh and pound Michigan I worry and Suzy I'm sorry that I lost you out there in the rocky world Would you build me a building, a chapel out there at the top of the hill in the still blue air Near the weather vane, by the track and train I'll be looking for you in the rocky world She's turning twenty, and out on the make pounding the blacktop with a habit to shake She's looking for a manger in the eyes of a stranger down in the streets of a rocky world Jenny has religion, she sinks in a chair She's made a decision to color her hair The black man cut the sugar cane and she watches the rain in a building away from the rocky world Yeah, I'll tell you something I'll never forget the sight of you in sillhouette Outside Saul Ste. Marie, ah you really threw me when you pulled me down to your rocky bed In a crowded room, I stood there empty looking for salvation and glory be When a shot turned my head and I saw you instead walking into my rocky world... ### [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Mon, 30 Sep 1996 04:12:11 -0700 (MST) From: "Antonio S Abeyta" <21113@ef.gc.maricopa.edu> To: lanois@usfca.edu Subject: Luscious Jackson this year? So has anybody heard anything about a release date for the Luscious Jackson album or has it been postponed until after the new year like every other album that I was looking forward to this fall...? :) Also - I can't remember to what extent Joe Henry was discussed on here, but I have to say that I have recently become very addicted to his albums "Trampoline" and "Shuffletown" - His lyrics are terrific and remind me of Raymond Carver short stories (for all you literature buffs out there - :) ) and the music is incredibly nifty. He does have ties to Lanois - and his music does sound rather Lanois-esque - kind of like if Bob Dylan were singing Raymond Carver stories with Lanois or maybe even Mitchell Froom producing... Also reminds me of Big Head Todd but more folky... I'd HIGHLY recommend checking him out - most of his early albums have just been re-released, but I'd start with one of the two mentioned above. Hoping nobody ever makes a horrible, horrible TV movie out of a Carver story like they did to "The Lottery" - Ant [Here's the scoop on the LJ CD: Luscious Jackson -- Naked Eye EP -- 1996 -- Grand Royal [release date 9/19] and Luscious Jackson -- Fever In, Fever Out -- 1996 -- Grand Royal/Capitol [release date 10/29]. They are on tour right now; playing in SF in a couple of weeks. DL played with them a few weeks ago, a link to that concert, which was broadcast on the Internet, is available off the web site at http://www.usfca.edu/usf/neufeld/lanois/tour.html - Kenley] [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] The views expressed in ACADIE are those of the individual authors only.
