My name's Jordan Buntain and I'm from Dundas/Ancaster Ontario.
Mr.
Lanois and my step-uncle helped build Grant Avenue Studios and it
never
occured to me that a lot of people were "in to"
Daniel's solo music as much
as they are! I've been listening to him for a long time and it's
great to
see he's getting a fabulous response to his musical
talent...(He's not a bad
producer too:)
Cheers from back home, Jordan Buntain

Hello all,
I was just wondering, I noticed that U2 wasn't using Eno or
Lanois
for the recording of their new album(At least I believe i recall
seeing
this) and I was wondering what everyone thought this would do to
their
work. It seems some of U2's more mature material was from
Unforgettable
Fire onwards, which is when Lanois and Eno appeared on the scene.
What
does anyone think about this effecting their sound?

Hello all! I'm curious if anyone has the playlist of Lanois'
guest D.J. spot
on WKCR. I'm dying to know the tracks he chose!
Thanks,
Michael

I believe that is how Emmylou Harris chose Lanois initially. She
noted that
many of the recordings that seemed particularly passionate and
emotional to
her involved Lanois, so when asked what producer she wanted to
work with, she
stated Lanois.
In either case, i discovered Lanois' work through the fact that
he had
recorded with Brian Eno ("The Pearl" is a very
beautiful, atmospheric
collection of music). I had also listened to a Martha and the
Muffins LP,
which, although I didn't know at the time, involved DL and his
sister.

This is a message aimed in response to suren's last contribution.
The
radio show sounds like a great tape, but HOW do I get it. I don't
even
know where WKCR broadcasts. Do you have an adress? cost?
Meanwhile I
impatiently await the luscious jackson concert friday here in
Philadelphia.
JOY!

I find myself wanting after listening to the new LJ cd. I
purchased it
because Daniel produced it. I tend to give credibility to artists
he works
with. There are, to be sure, some great moments, a few really
fine
lyrics....but, if you are thinking about it for the same reasons,
I feel
it'd be wise to hear it before you fork over the 15 dollars.
Wrecking Ball
is so fine in every way, Oh Mercy too...and of course the Peter
and U2
records....perhaps it's a case of unrealistic expectations.
Daniel certainly
brought LJ into a deeper place than before...The sounds, the
production are
the real deal. It's the material, the songwriting that leaves me
longing for
more. Anyone else have any feelings about this? I'm going to give
it a
little more time...
Now, the Ron Sexsmith album is another story. This is beautiful
and
improtant to hear. One track includes Daniel. Just terrific.

Dear Lanoiphiles,
I Haven't submitted in a while. I guess I have had no interesting
stories until now. Last night (11/1) was the second night of the
luscious
tour. They were here in Philadelphia, PA., and Josephine Wiggs
(of The
Breeders) Experience opened for them. The banded really had a
groove on,
and the sampling was where lanois sounds emerged. Unfortunately,
the crowd
was more of a head-nodding, low-key crew, so they didn't
reciprocate the
energy of the band. After - about an hour and half or so - My
friends and
I ran into Luscious Jackson loading their van and chilling. I
went over to
Vivian (Trimble, the keyboardist DIVA) and asked her where daniel
was.
She told me that he sort of "drifts in and out" and
that it was hard to
predict when he would appear. Apparently, they all hit it of
really well
with dl, and it sounded like they wanted him to be there.
Although dl was
sorely missed, I was glad for the chat (and signature) with
Vivian, who
stole my heart with her subtle smile and cool manner. I hope to
here more
stories and reviews as they cross the country. By the way, I
think the
album is really good, a bit more mellow than most jackson. It
sounds more
like a Mitchell Froom production to me, although it definately
has its
lanois moments and influences.
yours deeply,
Ilmi Granoff
