Subject: Drum Track for The Maker

For the question about the Drum track for "The Maker."
I bought this cassette
years ago, when it first appeared ("Daniel Lanois") and
in the "liner notes"
to the cassette Lanois explains that the drum track was first cut
for
something he was doing with the Neville Brothers, but it never
got used by
them. I could be misremembering this and I don't have immediate
access to the
actual tape--it's locked away in storage right now. So just check
the liner
notes if you have them.

BTW, it's nice to be on this list. I have been out of touch with
Lanois for a
bit, and have not heard till now about his recent producing
credits. When
will he put out another recording of his own? Thanks for all the
interesting
comments.

Does anyone know if DL was involved with the upcoming U2 album?

Subject: "Sling Blade" soundtrack opinions?

Has anyone heard the "Sling Blade" soundtrack yet? Any
opinions? My
opinions about this soundtrack would probably annoy many Lanois
fans on this
newsgroup, but honestly, I was disappointed by the soundtrack. I
thought
that it sounded a little half-baked, and brought out what I
thought were some
of DL's weaknesses in his guitar playing and production methods
-- I found
his constantly delayed, shimmery guitar tone to be ineffectual
and overdone
in many places, and found some of the doubling of guitar parts
that he seems
to enjoy doing to be irritating in several of the songs. The song
with
Emmylou Harris was okay, nothing to jump up and down about.

I am generally a big fan of his production and music (thought
that generally,
the "Wrecking Ball" release with Emmylou Harris was
brilliant, and have
always liked his work with U2 and Peter Gabriel, among others,
and his solo
work. I believe it is because of my high expectations that I was
severely
let down by "Sling Blade". Anyway, these are my
opinions, and you are
welcome to disagree with them, as long as you don't flame me for
expressing
mine.

I'll probably go see the movie next week!

You can find this information in Acadie booklet. It was
originally recorded
for Neville Brothers' Voodoo (from Yellow Moon album) but was
never used.

BTW: I want to wish all members of Acadie maillist merry
christmas and happy
new year... I'm going for a christmas vacation now.
This mail is in anyway connected to life and opinions of Lauri
Lahnasalo.
It was brought to you by internet and written and sent with lots
