I can't believe it's been a month since the last Digest! I guess the end of the
summer has gotten the better of me and I have let this group slip a little.
My apologies for the delay.
There isn't much for me to report on the Lanois front at this time, I will try
to get some current information on his happenings.
In the past month, 37 more people have subscribed to the mailing list, bringing
our total number up to 1,318 Lanois fans. Welcome to the new people; jump
'write' in at any time.

<< I love this discussion group as a source for new music to check out. >>
I thought that I would add a few suggestions to the list of music to check
out...
First, and most of all, is a long-time fave of mine, Sixteen Horsepower. The
best way to describe them would be to say that they're gothic bluegrass. Very
dark lyrics set to the most unusual music I've ever heard. Low Estate is
their latest cd.
And on the world music front is Wasis Diop and his new release, Toxu. I
caught him on Sessions At West 54th one night and ran out to get the cd the
next day.
I would also like to suggest that everyone check out a guitarist named
Gooding. His cd's are Winter's Return and Factory Blue. Both are brilliant.
On an unrelated note...would the person who posted the message about a new
Tea Party release please e-mail me privately with details. I work in a major
music store and have tried several times to order the new cd, and nobody has
any info on a new Tea Party cd. Thanks!
Sally

Hey y'all.
I'm new to the list. I'm just saying hi. A couple questions for everyone.
Is there a site with some guitar tab or chords of Daniel's work? Or his
songs on other people's albums? I'm new to Daniel and I'm looking forward
to learning more about him. I found out about him through U2. He sounds
like a great and talented guy. So, if anyone has any information about him,
especially relating to U2, Willie Nelson, or Emmylou Harris, I'd love to
hear it. I'm also looking for more of his material. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.

Subject: DL and Bruce Cockburn
Hi Everyone,
My name is Richard - and I've enjoyed a lot of the music Daniel Lanois
has performed and produced through the last few years. I've been on the
ACADIE list for a few months - and I'm finally writing because I wanted
to ask a question.
Has there ever been any collaboration or potential getting together of
DL and the inimitable Bruce Cockburn? I know that they both have big
production/ touring schedules - but I am surprised that Cockburn never
enlisted DL for much much more than he has.
Bruce Cockburn's forthcoming CD is called `Breakfast In New
Orleans/Dinner In Timbuktu` (due to be released 12th Sept, PLUG
OVER!!!). With hindsight being far clearer IMHO it could have made
sense to parachute Daniel Lanois in for some of it.
Looking back to `The Charity Of Night` (BC's previous) Lanois could
have really bought elements to the things that Bruce Cockburn and Colin
Linden already had. I'm thinking mainly of `Mistress Of Storms`, `Mines
Of Mozambique` and `Strange Waters`. I think the album was great but
someone of Dan's influence could have made it even better. What do you
think?
Of course, they might be the best of friends already and they gig at
every possible chance! I remember thinking how great it would have been
if BC and Lou Reed would perform together and apparently they already
have - *a number of times*. I was informed of this off the Humans list.
So ammendments to the above address!!!
Right now I have `Rocky World` playing on my CD - but I'll have to say
adios for the moment!
Regards
Richard

Well, the digest has been a little short lately, so I don't mid throwing in
one of those "suggested CD's": check out Snakefarm's "Songs from my funeral".
I've heard it referred to as "Folktronica" and "Portishead meets Tom Joad".
It's a collection of standard americana traditional folk songs ("Frankie &
Johhny", "Streets of Laredo", etc), rendered with trippy beat loops, spooky
bass, and one heck of a female singer. Doesn't necessarily have the "Lanois
sound", but I imagine Lanois fans (especially those who love "Acadie") will
really get off on it. One the best CD's this year. Moody, spacey but
hard-hitting, and beautifully recorded.

Subject: Reverend Goat
Hello folks,
I write to highly recommend the debut album by Reverend Goat. Reverend
Goat is a Cherokee who plays a harp fashioned from the jaw bone of a buffalo.
His stories brings to mind Lightnin' Hopkins. Lanois' approach to production
is apparent in this work. You can get samples of this album from the MP3 site
at www.MP3.com/revgoat and also www.louisianamusicfactory.com site (type in
Reverend Goat in the search engine within the site).
Peace with the spirits,
George Ingmire

hello
In response to the poster that boog70 was auctioning at Ebay - would
anyone like to send me a copy of the jpg as it is now a missing graphic
from the site. Perhaps it should also be added to the acadie website?
With the permission of Boog70, and Kenley

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, which seems excellent. I picked up several
Lanois-related tips from the first one I received. Just want to pass one on:
I've been mucking through mp3.com a bit lately, and found a Swedish(!) record
named Serious Clown by a band named Biggles at www.mp3.com/biggles, stating
Lanois, Robbie Robertson and U2 as influences among others, and I'd say well
over half the songs on the album fit this description, especially the songs
Valle Gran Rey, Wheels Keep On Turning, Trinidad and Velote. The others are
also excellent by the way, though a few are not so heavily Lanois-influenced.
Foremost I'd say the production is world-class, right up there with DL's work,
very mature, soulful and atmospheric... guitars and keyboards work hand in
hand throughout, fans of DL's and the Edge's guitar playing will be happily
surprised, and there is both a male and female singer who are very tantalizing
and powerful.. Check it out, especially considering that this album is
unreleased and unheard, according to the liner notes, maybe this mailing group
can make something happen with the record, which would be very cool!
It can always be fun to get to know something new while waiting for the new U2
release, and that third DL solo album which never seems to materialize...
A first-time thank you,
John Schneider

Wow, do you know how hard it is to find this man Mr Brady Blade? Obviously you don't know me but my name is Melissa calling from Melbourne, Australia, Brady has told me a bit about you. I don't mean to impose on your email address but he had given me his home address during the last time we caught up and it's currently missplaced. I can't seem to detect a web page either. If by any chance.... SIR Daniel, Just visualise me praying down on my hands and knees now...(don't tell him i said that though) you could hook me up somehow or pass my email address over to him if he's around. I miss my special friend....or maby i interpreted it wrongly?? I suppose i am talking about someone who everyone wants as a special friend. Maby we need Brady cloning! lol! Anyway i won't take up too much space,
Mel is over and out

Hi All..
I'm recording an independent cd and was wondering if anyone would like to
hear some rough mixes and give me some feedback before I finish up. I know
you all have good taste so any comments would be appreciated. If interested,
drop me a line.
