Just FYI, the ACADIE group turned four years old in December. Let's keep it
going for another four (or more).

All of music that appeared in the movie is available on the "Sling Blade"
DVD. With a DVD drive and recording software, you can capture the intros,
outros, and transitional bits that were included in the movie but omitted
from the commercial soundtrack CD.
Incidentally, the official site for "All The Pretty Horses":
http://www.spe.sony.com/movies/jump/prettyhorses.html
now states that the movie will be in theatres during Q3 2000, so I hope
that we can count on a summer release! =)

I had the pleasure of being too sick to party on News Years Eve unlike the
rest of the world and spent the evening channel surfing. I came across a
concert in Washington DC and Bill Clinton and family were in the front row.
Bono appeared onstage, praising Clinton, with a non-Edge guitar player
which I thought quite strange, and due to my fever and lack of proper
thinking it didn't click until they had a close up of said guitar player.
Danile Lanois sporting a spiffy short haircut was strumming away with Bono
to the U2 song One. Every one should be happy to know that Bill, Hillary
and Chelsy all seemed pleased with the performance.
cheers all.

I thought I'd suggest something since I haven't written in awhile. One of
Lanois' guys produced Ani DeFranco's version of "Amazing Grace."
Why doesn't Lanois produce an Ani DeFranco album? Forget Jewel, go Ani!!!!!

Hi there!
I've just been on you Daniel Lanois page. Well done.
I have a question that I've been trying to answer for about a year now. I'm
a musician/singer/songwriter (not a producer, though) living in Hull,
Québec, which is where Lanois was born, (and, like him, I'm french) but I'm
trying to find out where exactly he was raised before moving with his mother
to Ontario. I remember reading something where he said he was raised near
Gatineau. (Gatineau is bigger than Hull, but less important, Hull being the
region "capital".) So I discount that he may have been raised in Hull.
Anyway, back in those days, Hull had the only important hospital in the
region (discounting Ottawa) so it only makes sense that he was born there.
In the song "My jolie Louise", he says "I come from east of Gatineau". I was
raised (although I was born very far from there) in the small town
immediately to the east of Gatineau. Therefore... I am curious as to wether
or not we have similar origins.
All that babbling to ask if you would know of somewhere where I could find
out this bit of information.
Thanks!

Does Daniel have any plans for a Canadian concert tour, perhaps in this neck
of the woods (Vancouver Island, specifically Victoria)? An eager fan

Daniel was recently invited by President Clinton to the WhiteHouse, along
with Quincey Jones, Bono and several other special artists, to perform at a
private New Years Eve Celebration on January 31st, 1999. Parts of it were
briefly broadcast during the Washington D.C. coverage of the Capital's New
Years Celebrations. No news yet about any follow up broadcast of the entire
performance(s).

Re Sharon Blevin's message from Australia on 4 Jan 2000
This Classic Album doc was on Channel 3 TV in the UK on 27 Nov 1999 - and it was a fantastic programme. Only wish I'd known before so I could've video'd it - but instead watched it at a friends house after a dinner party (much to her disgust!). There was a lot of Lanois interviews old and new (did he really get his hair cut that short? - I've seen nothing of him since his London concert with Emmylou).
Time Out Magazine's review, if anyone's interested, went as follows:
"However inflated and bombastic U2 have grown in the meantime, the band can rightly point to their 1987 album 'The Joshua Tree' as a landmark in 80's pop. Amongst other qualities, the record was notable for the mighty production of Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and it's their contributions to this entertaining account of the album's creation that stand out. Manager Paul McGuinness, engineer Flood and the band themselves all look back intelligently, but most engaging are the producers' comments on the original sessions that produced tracks like 'Without (sic) or Without You' and 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'. (MH) "
I'm a new subscriber and look forward to being kept updated.

Hi there,
I run a U2 site and we have real video of Bono and Daniel Lanois performing
One on New Year's if you are interesting in linking to us. Also, we have an
article on the full tracklisting for the Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack
which features Lanois.
