Just wanted to mention that Emmylou has a great site which can be reached
from the "Other Sites Related To DL" on Kenley's page - There is actually
a lot of stuff about Dan there as well, including some quite interesting
tidbits about the recording of "Wrecking Ball"... (Blackhawk was
originally recorded by Dan with Iggy Pop?! :) )

Ant

By the way - I found, by complete accident, another Mitchell Froom
produced album - "Cibo Matto" - a new (debut) album by two Japanese women
who sing very strange songs about food... I'll leave it at that... :)

Hi
Your doing a real good work Lanois on the net. Keep up the good work

I'm enclosing chords for the messenger. I hope the lyrics are OK.

The Messenger
Words and music by Daniel Lanois

Bbm C# F# G#
Got a letter from a messenger
Bbm C# F#
I read it when it came
Bbm C# F# G# Bbm
It said that you were wanted
C# G#
You were bound and chained
C# F#
You had loved and you were handled
C# G#
You were poisoned you were paved
   Bbm F# G# C#
Oh no, Oh no you were naked you were shamed

You could almost touch heaven
Right there in front of you
Liberty just slipped away from us
Now there's so much work to do
Oh the door that closes tightly
Is the door that can't swing wide
Oh no, Oh no but expecting to collide

C# F#
For a minute I let my guard down
                       C#
Not afraid to be found out
           F#
Completely forgotten
                         C#
What our feels where all about
   Bbm F# G# C#
Oh no, Oh no there's no need to be without

There's a chance and I will take it
This desire I can't give
Take my heart please don't break it
I will crawl to your foothill
I'm frightened but I'm coming
Please baby please lay still
Oh no, oh no not coming for the kill
Oh no, oh no not coming for the kill
Oh no, oh no not coming for the kill

Greetings from Martin Hedlund, He95hema@ihh.hj.se

Subject: grant avenue studios...

i had to throw something in about grant ave...a wonderful little studio
which daniel and bob lanois threw together, which has managed to put
hamilton, ontario onto the musical map...a good thing for that city...

anyway, i went there many moons ago, in hope of getting some direction from
bob lanois as to my pursuing a career in sound technology. what i got was
anything but inspiring. he told me that women technicians are treated like
(pardon the language) shit in the industry, and that i should probably think
of some other career goal. he was very nice about it, he showed me the
studio and played some tracks from an album he was working on at the time
(prairie oyster) and he did explain and demonstrate a lot of the technology
they use to me. anyway, the bottom line is, i'm not a sound tech, but i am
going to sony music for a co-op after i'm finished my journalism
program...sorry, i guess this really isn't about DL...

Subject: Telluride Bluegrass

I have a question for anyone who could answer. Last year, DL was
scheduled to appear at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, however by the
time the final schedule was posted, he was no longer on the bill.
However, Emmylou Harris, who was not scheduled to appear, showed up.

Emmylou is a possibility for Telluride this year as per Planet Bluegrass
in mid January. Does anyone know if DL plans to resume the tour, for a
possible stop in Telluride??

Subject: Cool Water - Where to get

Hello together,

after reading the newsletters for a few weeks on the web and hearing
so much about Cool Water, I _must_ have this CD! Since it is
impossible to get it here in Switzerland, I'll try to buy it when
I come to New York, Boston and Montreal this spring. Does anybody
have any hints where I could find it in one of these cities, and how
much it would cost me approximately? I'd appreciate any comments on
this subject.

Thanks a lot and goodbye

Oliver

Salut!

A few days ago, I heard "Lotta love" on the radio. The volume was very
low and I couldn't hear clearly, but I'm almost sure, that wasn't DL
singing. And you know how it is - I was too busy to go raise the
volume. Did I dream? Anybody has more info??

howdy

just e-mailing to let you know i appreciate your daniel lanois page

i also may have a correction for you

re: the collection of marie claire
3rd verse
i always thought the line was "marie claire, it's no good la vie d'une
danceur"

this would translate "marie claire, it's no good the life of a dancer.

but i could be wrong

a suggestion for your page may be to include names of other bands whose style
is similar to that of daniel. i think this is a good idea cus this style of
music does not exactly get a lot of airplay.

i even have an opening suggestion
there is a band from quebec called " la bottine souriante"
they play very traditional quebecois music and are quite accomplished
musician
they are "well known" in quebec and the northeast

of course there is also "beausoleil" from new orleans

anyway it's been a pleasure

see ya and thks again
