I noticed that several people are compiling or are interested in Lanois' music
in films. One that I haven't seen mentioned is Wim Wenders' "Far Away - So
Close". I can't remember which song is in the movie - one from Wynona, I
think. Anyway - it's in there. Plus - it's a great movie! Kathy G.

The Dune soundtrack is not by Lanois or Eno, although one rare Eno track
is featured on both the soundtrack and in the movie. I suppose Lanois
could have had something to do with it, but it's just credited to Eno.

Hello there fellow Dan fans!
Does anyone have the exact street address of Daniel's studio is in New
Orleans (he does have one there doesn't he)? Does anyone know how often he
is there? Is it permanently staffed? Does the studio operate year round? Any
information about this would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you,
                                                Matt Taylor

Hi there--

Does anyone have any information about the spoken-word collaboration
between Daniel Lanois and Ani Difranco that was rumored to be out sometime
this year? Ani's latest album, a double-cd live set (highly recommended!)
was just released, so maybe the collaboration will show up on his album?

I have to say that I'm wildly jealous of you folks who not only get to see
"The Making of Wrecking Ball" on your PBS stations, but get to see DL's
in-store appearances also! At least the rest of us have the kindred
spirits on this list... thanks, Kenley!

Kenley, my sincere thanks for setting up this newsletter. Knowing that Daniel will have some imput will
make it even better. I actually look forward to coming into work on Wednesdays as I know I will have the
newsletter to read. Living in Australia definitely has its downside - I would love to be able to hear the radio
shows and go to an instore appearance. We haven't even had the privilege of seeing Daniel perform
anywhere in Australia (to my knowledge anyway). So my first request is that if Daniel is actually reading
these messages - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE (I'm begging) come down here - ps. a great venue would
be the State Theatre in Sydney - it would suit you perfectly! My second request is that anyone who has
anyone who has a copy of the Emmylou Harris special (Wrecking Ball), could you please send me a copy
as I don't think we will ever get it down here. That also goes for any radio shows anyone may have taped
(esp KCRWW California tapes), could I please borrow them to listen to? (I will return the tape I promise.)
You people living in the States and Canada don't know how lucky you are to have easy access to all of
this. By the way, anyone living in Sydney - I rang Polygram/Island and the movie Sling Blade is being
released here in June and the soundtrack should be released locally around that time - the only place I
have seen the soundtrack in Sydney is at Red Eye on import for an expensive A$36 (approx. US$46).
Another project Daniel has worked on that I have on record is "Music for Films" with Brian Eno and I think
Harold Budd (the record is buried somewhere so I am going on memory here). In answer to Carsten
Kroon's question /fantasy - I would even consider flying to USA/Canada from Sydney for a private concert
depending on finances at the time (always a problem!). Thanks also to Graham Vernon for sending me
the rest of the interview. Anyway, Kenley I really appreciate you taking the time to send me the newsletter
and I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help an isolated Aussie keep in touch with the
ACADIAN world. Send e-mail to: Sharon.Blevin@aah.com.au

Dear Acadiens,

I can see that we are all getting psyched up for the arrival of the
next DL record...He said during the live KCRW live DJ set last year
that he had already got the material for the record and was fine
polishing the product and would come out with it after recording the
BD record in Flo......Anytime between now and the fall ??? according
to some other reports.

In the mean time.... I recommend :-

Beck's latest effort which contains many similar production styles to
Dan's and incidetally ............he has Dan's highest admiration
and they are scheduled to some collborative work together.

Tha last two Michael Brook collabs with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and
Srinivas

The latest Big Head Todd & Monsts...

Hang in there folks...............................

Suren
