ACADIE Digest:

Just a correction to a past comment in your Digest about Snug Harbor where
Daniel supposedly hangs out: Snug Harbor is the most famous "Jazz" venue in
the Quarter - and Charmaine Neville performs there - doesn't own it -
for whatever it's worth! It's our favorite place and we spend every Jazz
Fest staying at the B&B over Snug Harbor run by the owners of the building.
By the way if going to New Orleans it's a great place to stay to get the
real feeling of "The Big Easy" and is one block from Daniel's studio, where
occasionally you can hear the music when strolling by. For more info call
(800)282-4556 Mon/Tues/Fri. We became fans of Daniel's a few years ago
when hearing him perform at Jazz Fest and attending a party he put on at his
studio.

Hello . . .

I'm new to the digest, but I've been lurking the past couple of weeks. In
regards to Sling Blade, the movie was the primary spark for searching out
DL's work. I was familiar with his production record, but just as Eric
Iversen mentioned, the soundtrack is left virtually empty with out the
performance. Because of this emptiness, however, I feel the need to
purchase Acadie or Wynona . . .I know he's good. I can feel it. "The
Maker"is my first verification of this instinct. Does anyone on this
"list" of sorts have a suggestion as to which of the two albums I may
prefer? You may email me privately if you like and I thank you kindly for
your time. (Particularly Kenley for being such a great sport and putting
this together!)

Hello and greetings from "The Hammer",

Caught yr website. Nice. One thing though: you need Hamilton input.
Specifically, info on Lanois production work at Grant from the years 1977-85.
For example: Lanois produced several recordings by the Hamilton group, The
Shakers, between Aug.1979 and Dec.1981.
A lot of these recordings have been recently compiled on a self-titled CD,
released 20-odd months ago.
I mention this, because Tim Gibbons, who appears on the Slingblade
Sdtrck, used to play guitar for the Shakers.

Has anybody caught the US West Coast Slingblade promo tour Dan & Tim have
been doing?

Hi Everyone,

There is an interesting article about Daniel in the May 14 issue of The
Toronto Star. Their address is http://www.thestar.com. From there scroll down
until you find the Back Issues button on the left-hand side. The article is
in the Life-Entertainment section. It should be available until the end of
May.

Cheers,

Lisa

Dear friends,

maybe you have been discussing this before (I haven't been in my office for a
few weeks, so I might have missed it), but I thought it might be of interest
for some of you. I found the following text in a Swiss news magazine (called
FACTS). I translated it from German, so please excuse style and mistakes.

Quote:

Bob Dylan's first studio album since 1993, announced since quite a while and
originally scheduled for March 1997, is to be released 'in August or September',
as [a speaker of] the record label stated. Because of 'differences' between
Dylan and his producer Daniel Lanois it is questionable if the record is to be
released at all, said Don Was, a close friend of both Dylan and Lanois, in an
interview with FACTS. This would be a pity, because Was, who has produced
Dylan before, thinks, after a first rehearsal, the work to be 'maybe the best
Dylan has ever made'.

End Quote
Source: FACTS 19, May 7, 1997, page 127

Can anybody confirm or (preferably) disprove this disappointing message?

I still hope I'll have the opportunity to listen to this record in the near
future ...

Best regards

Oliver

Bon Jour All -

RE: "Wrecking Ball"
I saw and taped the "Wrecking Ball" video this weekend and as I had heard
previously, it's an excellent view into Kingsway Studios and the making of
"Wrecking Ball" album. The studio is sublime and inspiring even for the
viewer of this documentary - I can only imagine how it feels to record
there. I recommend the video highly to Emmy and Daniel fans alike. If
anyone is interested in trading a copy of the video for another video or audio
recording, please send me an email (my copy of the video has some great
footage of Bill Monroe in concert as well).

RE: Beatrice
Does anyone know if the song and character "Beatrice" is related at
all to the character with the same name from Dante's writings (specifically
"Divine Comedy") or this similarity strictly a coincidence? Just curious.

Cheers,
David
