I have some live Daniel audio and video to trade- a recent acquisition of
video is an approximately hour long 1993 Much Music interview/live music
show Daniel did (I think the audio for the music segments might make up the
"Cool Water" boot CD for anyone who has that), and a half hour documentary on
Daniel and his brother, and a maybe fifteen minute (incomplete) segment of
Daniel and Darryl playing live in Milan in 1993 from Italian TV. If anyone
has anything to trade, please e-mail me privately.

Dear Acadiens,

I see that much has been written about Emmy Lou after her recent gigs
which reminds me of the the time I saw her in Seattle last year just
after the WB release. I had been blown away by the record and was
desperate for more of the same. I sat next to this New Age cowboy
(best description of him) who could see that I was transported to
another world watching her from the front row and he guessed that it
was the 1 st time I had seen her live.
He recommended me two records ..... Live at the Ryman and Cowgirl's
Prayer which he said that I could venture to with safety knowing that
my country music pedigree was not quite there. The both records
contain some skipworthy tracks they contain some excellent songs
I play them as much as I do WB now. The tunes and moods are like WB
but miss the production landscapes of DL.
I recommend them to those of you who love WB for more than the
production. The rest of her records did nothing for me...
I am fascinated to see what she comes out with next

Does anyone know if Emmylou will be playing in the Boston area/or
anywhere in New England?

As if no one has said it yet: GO SEE Pop Mart!
Zoo TV was incredible to me visually. This one beat any pre-conceived idea
about this tour. In a word: omygoodnessyouhavegottoseethisshow!

I am a producer in the Indianapolis area who has been touched by Lanois
fever. I toured Kingsway in January, 1994; my friend's sister in-law is
Lisa Germano. She was recording "These Boots Were Made for Walking" with
Malcome Byrne when I got to see where Daniel works. --Truly the coolest
studio I have been in --EVER. It still haunts me to this day; so does his
music. What is it about that? Some recordings are so low-fi, yet so
complete. The guitar.

There has been talk in previous issues about video of one of Daniel's
shows? I have to see this video. Also, I need some more of HIS work.
Are there any bootlegs?

Okay... I think I did it, but I'm going on a little help from a freind.

here you go...

1. Ozzy to Lita Ford: that Duet they did
2. Lita started out playing guitar for Michael Jackson - this is what
I'm going on from a freind...
3. Michael Jxn to Paul McCartney - a duet on Thriller, man what a song!
4. McCartney to Bono cause of that Band Aid song "Do They know It's Xmas?"
5. Bono to Lanois...

There you have it in 5 steps...

That's a little better than the Bob Rock connection that I tried to
come up with... If I'm dead wrong, let me know...

Well, I got many great options going from Daniel Lanois to Ozzy Osbourne in
6 steps or less...if you're curious this is the one that worked best, I
think:
>Ozzy Ozbourne made a guest vocal on a Was(not Was) album in 1983 or
>something. Don Was produced Dylan, of course ...
Thanks to Staffan Björkman for that one and for everyone else who wrote!
Now I have a good, if rather obscure one, linking Lanois to a cappella
group The Nylons, but that's because that's where my interest lies. If
you're interested in hearing about it or want to attempt the link yourself
send me mail.
Angela (anjelle@accessus.net)--who's going to see Emmylou Harris this
weekend!!! YAAAYY!!

Dear Kenley,
I read on the last newsletter that DL may be playing some dates with
Emmylou Harris. Can you please confirm or deny this rumour? St. Louis was
specifically mentioned, and I would make the five hour drive if I knew he
would be there. Hope its not too much trouble. Thanks again for all of the
great work on the newsletter. I look forward to it every week.

                                                        so long for now,

Subject: Kingsway Ownership

Hi everybody,

A couple of months ago it was brought up that DL no longer owned Kingsway
Studio. Since I live in New Orleans, I was very concerned about that
information and decided to write New Orleans Magazine. There is a section
where you can send in questions about N.O. The article is based on a person
by the name of Julia street and a side kick parrot named Poydras (these are
the names of two popular streets here). Today I got my issue (July 1997) and
my question was answered. The subject of his ownership has been addressed
here since I wrote that letter but I thought everyone would like to see what
they said..........

Q) Dear Julia,
There is a rumor floating around the Internet that legendary music
producer Daniel Lanois has sold his famous
Kingsway Studio in the French Quarter. Please say it ain't so!

          Amanda Marx

A) Hey Amanda, here's a lesson we all have to learn for the '90's, at
least what's left of them: Just because it's on the
                  Internet doesn't make it right.

Poydras, being the sleuth that he is, went to check out the property
transaction files. According to current records at the Real Estate Office in
City Hall, Kingsway Music Co. is still listed as the owner of the house on
Esplanade. Kingsway bought the property in 1989.

I, being the practical person that I am, used a more direct method.
I called the people at Kingsway, who say that the Internet story is simply
not true. Lanois still owns the business.

Incidentally, having produced albums for U2, Peter Gabriel, the
Neville Brothers and Bob Dylan, French Canadian Daniel Lanois has also had a
number of his own projects to keep him busy. Most recently, he composed the
music for the film "Sling Blade". Tell that to the Internet.

Of course no one had to tell us that but anyway..................

Amanda

Your Daniel Lanois site is excellent! Thank-you for providing all the
lyrics. Only one correction: in _Rocky World_, the city is 'Sault Ste.
Marie' (the 't' on the end of 'Sault' was omitted).

The page is: http://www.sfbayconcerts.com/lanois/lyrics/rockyworld.html

And the whole verse is,
> Yeah, I'll tell you something I'll never forget
> the sight of you in the sillhouette
> Outside Saul Ste. Marie, ah you really threw me
> when you pulled me down to your rocky bed

Thanks again!
Mike.

Emmylou was in Minneapolis last night (7/15/97) at First Ave. She did a wonderful show!! So much of the Lanois sound that I could close my eyes and pretend he was there. Is he ever going to tour again?
