Well, I had a wonderful time driving my motorcycle up to Fairbanks,
Alaska and back (to San Francisco). Saw some gourgous country and
fishing villages that went real well with the music of Daniel (I took
along Wynona). Managed to pick up a used copy of it in Whitehorse,
Yukon without the American Edition plastered all over it.

Please keep the messages coming and enjoy this issue.

Subject: Emmylou in Toronto

Hi.

I saw Emmylou in Toronto on Friday night.
She was wonderful.

I was hanging around backstage afterwards and I heard her and her manager
talking. They had just
been n NYC the night before working on a video project with Dan Lanois.

She looked amazing.. Though so much smaller and younger than I expected.

Where can I find the Rocky World video? I've tried ordering it through
stores here in Minneapolis, but I've been told it isn't available. Any
help would be appreciated!

Hello friends.

I was fortunate to be one of the maybe 200 audience members to attend the
Sessions on 54th for the taping of Emmy and Daniel. It was incredible! Emmy
played first with her band, Brady Blade on drums, Daryl Johnson on bass and
Buddy Miller on guitar and mandolin. They played only Wrecking Ball tunes
with Buddy doing the "Lanois guitar parts", and Daryl doing the "Lanois vocal
harmonies". After about the fifth song (they opened with 'Oh where will I
be'), Dan came out and they did "Deeper Well" and Dan did this SICK guitar
solo that had people in the audience practically in shock! They did "May
this be Love" (Waterfall) with the full band, but later on retaped it with
just Emmy and Dan because Dan thought it sounded out of tune. Later on, Dan
did some solo stuff that left the audience rivited. It was perfect. He did
"The Maker" with the full band coming up one by one. He also did that
song "Shenendoah" with Emmy from the Sling Blade Soundtrack. At the end they
did a traditional New Orleans song, which name I forget, but it was kind of
like an "Aiko Aiko". This, I believe, was just for the audience, and not for
the taping of the show. The people that were there knew that they had
witnessed a piece of musical history. Airing on PBS, Sat. Sept.6.

Best Regards,
les carly

Subject: Jimmie Rodgers Tribute CD

I got this conversation swiped from the Greg Brown Digest VI #15 concerning
the Jimmie Rodger's Tribute CD. I can't personally vouch how 100% accurate
some of the more bias statements are but it provides some interesting talk.

Also, there's an article in the Los Angeles Times Calendar section, August
10, 1997, written by Richard Comelin concerning this project along with a
historical background of who Jimmie Rodgers is--the article may be
available online. Unfortunately, the article didn't detail any further
information like...did Daniel Lanois produce the Dylan song? I guess we'll
know sooner than later.

Shu-Shu

Subject: silium's hill, etc.

When I saw Daniel and Emmylou back in November of '95, he did a nice
Silium's Hill instrumental with that beautifully controlled reverb of
his. Anyway, when I listened to it the next day, one of the chord
progressions sounded incredibly familiar. I soon figured out where
it was from: Dylan's (?) Shooting Star found on the Oh Mercy LP.
The reason I'm writing is because I was listening to some more live
Lanois I just got and was anmazed at how familar the harmonica
sounded. Could've easily been from Oh Mercy- same exact sound. Then
I noticed some sounds that were distinctly of The Joshua Tree kind.
And so on. Daniel obviously contributed A LOTto all these great
records he's produced. I keep wondering just how much. Someone
posted a while back about talking to Ron Sexsmith and him saying he
didn't want to work with Daniel anymore because he preferred a more
"collaborative" effort. I suddenly somehow feel I understand that
statement a little bit more. Saw Sexsmith last month BTW and it was
at times mesmerizing. A quality show. His percussionist/celloist
was especially right on.

Totally unrelated, but has anyone caught this Beth Orton tour,
supposedly with 8-piece band? Reviews?

Patiently waiting
to hear that new
"sonically strong, lyrically weak"
Dylan LP,

Eric Terpening

Hi Dan Fans

I didnt have any luck last time trying to get a dubb of rocky world
last time I asked,so at the risk of being boring I would like to
offer a non-american copy of "Wynona" (no "AMERICAN EDITION" stamp
on cover photo) to the first person to drop a E-mail to me here.
Well go from there. By the way I do live in New Zealand so the postage
may be a little above average

Cheers all.

Kenley,

I recently went to Lilith Fair in Dallas, Texas and for the first time
saw Daniel Lanois with Emmylou Harris. I had no idea who he was, and
out of all the artists and musicians there, I thought his performance
with Emmylou was the most incredible.

It was a joy to find your home page so that I can explore more of his
discography.

Subject: Lanois the cover story in Canadian Musician

Hello everyone,

I just got back from a long weekend in Toronto and picked up the latest issue
of Canadian Musician magazine with Daniel on the cover.

I checked Canadian Musician's website but the article is not available for
reading. Perhaps some of our Canadian Acadians might offer to pick up a few
issues and send them to non-Canadian Acadians? Otherwise try e-mailing them
directly at info@nor.com and see about having an issue sent to you.

Canadian Musician's web address is http://nor.com/cm

Cheers,

Lisa

Subject: Need Some Cool Water.

I have been on the list for quite sometime now and I really enjoy reading
all of the posts. I have met and chatted with a couple of cool people:
it's amazing how people's interests are the same, and you're still worlds
apart.

I have been searching for anything to do with COOL WATER for the past two
months now. I have gone to libraries, used record stores, and asked the
folks I've talked to, but cannot locate a copy ANYWHERE. (3 places have
been searching for over a month now, and they're sick to death of me) I
know it's been discontinued... At one record store, I searched thier
computer for Cool Water, and found a videotape reference. After I read the
discription, I KNOW THAT I HAVE TO GET THIS VIDEO. And, if there is a CD,
I would like to get that too.

You see, recording / music production is my lifeblood. And just to know
that there is a video of Daniel making music makes me crazy that I cannot
locate a copy.

So please, if you know of an internet source, or if you have any
information, write me!
Thanks in advance,
alhouser@lilly.com
