Hi Acadians!
Once again I thank you for all your wonderful contributions which keep
this Newsletter going. It is a truly rewarding experience to be able to put
this thing together for you all. However, I am swimming under the weight
of holding my day job (40-60 hrs per week), my hobby job (10-20 hrs per
week) and two web sites (6 hrs. per week) and of course my marriage
(should be 100% of my time) together.
I want to be able to continue to be able to continue the Subscriber List page
on the web site so we can contact each other directly based on geography,
but, my time is to short to keep it updated. Would someone like to
volunteer to update that particular page on a weekly or bi-weekly basis?
We usually get about 10-20 new subscribers per week and a couple drop
off each week (bounces and movers). I would forward the info to you and
you could email me the complete HTML page with the added information.
If no one volunteers, I will just leave the page the way it is or simply
remove it from the web site.
I look forward to hearing from someone in the group, preferable someone
with some minimal HTML skills. Thanks.
Kenley

i read the acadie and what you didn to recieve previously was myu fiorst
email, not the second. here is the first part again.
1-LOVESICK-a swamp/blues number with;organ riff dominates a spooky opener.
ominous lyrics and performance, very unique song. the entire song turns
on the last line,
i see isee lovers in the meadow
i see i see sillohuets in the window....
im sick of love...
2-DIRT ROAD BLUES- dylan doing what sounds like howling wolf. unlike any
of the other songs on the record, with circular playing by the band. some
great blues guitar, and blues based lyrics.
3-STANDING ON THE DOORWAY- a slow, urgent number, and with many of the
songs on this album, has an unusual arrangemet, and an odd refrain. bob
finds himself playing his 'gay guitar' and chomping on a 'cheap
cigar'. world weary lyrics, and feel. very nice.
4-MILLION MILES- standard down and dirty blues with guitar effects
everywhere. like most of the songs, there are many guitar parts, but youd
be hard pressed to find a single solo anywhere on the record.
5-TRYIN TO GET TO HEAVEN-a beauty. set in the turn of the century dixie.
or is it thge civil war. mid tempo, elegant ballad with lyrics to match:
i see the people on the platforms
waiting for the trains
i can hear their hearts beating
like pendelums on a chain
just when you think youve lost everything
you find out you lose just a littel bit more
im just going down the road feeling bad
trying to get ot heaven before thy close the door
im typing the lyrics from memory so there may be some mistakes, but you
get the idea. a defenite classic.

I just wanted to thank "the viewers" of last week's broadcast...
Really, though: I dropped the word how miserably-desperate I was for some
more DL music, and so many people have stepped-up to offer tapes, etc. I
even had one guy try to sell me a guitar strap that he claimed was signed
by DL from an interview session - Yah right! --Just a little bit over the
top now, aren't we? (HeeHee! Just kidding! I pulled that from issue 84.
Sorry - I just HAD to go there!)
In my post in issue 83, In my naivete, I mentioned that I was looking for a
"Cool Water" video. I am actually looking for Rocky World.
I have followed-up on some ads in the back of Premier Magazine. --"We'll
find any movie for you!" they claim. We'll see.
If I find a source, I'll pass it along.

It's good to hear that SOMEONE has gotten the new Dylan album, Time Out of
Mind. I went to Tower Records last week and they told me the album wasn't
even on order. They got tired of waiting, I guess. But I did hear Dylan play
at Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts outside D.C., just last weekend,
and he did one song from the new album. It was a great show, and it's great
to see him on stage after his recent illness. I was hoping Lanois would make
a surprise appearance, but no such luck. Thanks for the advanced word on the
new album.

Subject: My run-in with Dan too (inspired by David Faulhaber)
I have been enjoying the newsletters for several months & never posted but I
just had to write after reading of David Faulhaber's wonderful meeting with
Daniel Lanois - what a beautiful, magical time - and my meeting was like that
too. On November 2, 1995 Daniel appeared with Emmylou Harris for the first
show of her "Wrecking Ball" tour in Tennessee. I've loved Emmylou since her
days with Gram Parsons but at the time I was listening constantly to "Acadie"
and "For The Beauty Of Wynona" so I was really excited about this particular
concert and I was not disappointed!!! My friends and I left the show
practically in shock at the power of what we had just heard & walked down the
street to the Brewing Company. An hour or so later my friend and I walked
across the street to my car, turned up "Wynona" real loud and headed for home
- but two blocks away just down the street from the theater the band was
standing beside the bus. I just had to stop and thank them all for a
wonderful concert and then I asked if Daniel might be around and would mind
signing my cds (OK - all kinds of people do dorky things sometimes) and
everybody said - sure, that's great, pull your car over here, he'll be out in
a minute - just really, really nice people - then Daniel came walking down
the street, somebody pointed to my car and he came right over and started
asking questions about what we thought about the concert - Did we like the
songs he did without Emmylou? Should he do different ones? Should the songs
be in a different order? Did it all sound OK? - He said since this was the
first show they were still working things out and he seemed so genuinely
interested in what we thought. "The Unbreakable Chain" was playing from the
car and he said he hadn't heard that in a long time and then started telling
us a rather personal family story about writing the song - he just talked and
talked like an old friend and didn't seem to be in a hurry at all - just
incredible... I didn't forget to have him sign the cds (and not just a
quick, scribbled signature either - "Hey Karen, All the best, Love Daniel
Lanois X O" on Acadie) and then just before he left, he leaned over and
kissed me on the cheek - by then I was completely in shock!
There's no reason for me to be writing this either except that for me, as for
David, Daniel Lanois is not just an incredible musician, he's a magical
memory too.
A question - For anyone who saw the tour later - What songs did he do? I
wonder if he followed any of my suggestions. Karen

Hi everybody!
Good news for those who are desesperately seeking for Daniel Lanois
Cool Water album! I'm a Daniel Lanois fan who lives in Mexico City, and
believe it or not, Mexico City is one of the best places in the world to
find very limited or exotic musical stuff, probably even better than Italy.
I found two 'Cool Water' copies in a CD store, they have different
covers and prices, but are the same. One has a photo of Daniel on the cover,
and the other CD it's blue. The prices of the CDs is US $25.00 and US $30.00
aproximatelly.
So, if there's anybody interested or want a free cassette copy from
my 'Cool Water' CD, send a mail.

Is there a direct Daniel Lanois correlation to all of this? Well, no, not
exactly but hey, they're a good bunch of songwriters and singers,
particularly GREG BROWN. (And I'll be seeing one particular angel out in
Lanoisland attend the GB show! ;) )
[Posted this time but I would rather not make a habit of it. - Kenley]

Subject: Emmylou and Lanois
Having joined this mailing list only a couple of months ago (very
thankfully), I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I
thought it deserved some mention for those who may have missed it. At
http://www.liveconcerts.com/harddrive/kcrw/ you can find 2 RealAudio
(extremely good quality) recordings of guest appearances of Daniel
Lanois and Emmylou Harris on KCRW.
The recordings are mixes of live recordings and interviews. Daniel
alludes to his solo album in the works (fingers crossed for near
future completion). The recordings are both listed under Emmylou
Harris: October 4, 1995 (Wrecking Ball stuff) and April 9, 1997
(Slingblade and a Leonard Cohen cover). This is worth the trouble of
downloading the RealAudio Player if you have a 28.8 connection or
better. Happy listening!

I found a 'new' Emmylou Harris single for the song "Goodbye" that has a
radio remix by Dan, plus the 'Building the Wrecking Ball' interview.
The remix is kind of noisy - I have to say I like the album version
better, but I can see why the remix will be (or would have been..) better
for the radio.
The Pretenders recorded "Goodbye" for the movie G.I. Jane soundtrack. My
guess is they will get at least a semi-hit with it, just because that's
the way it always works, right? I don't have anything against The
Pretenders, but Emmylou's voice just works SOOO much better for the song..

So would anyone be willing to tape the PBS show this Saturday for a
certain someone whose local station apparently doesn't run it? Please? :)
I would REEEEEALLY appreciate it, and would be willing to work out some
sort of deal... Let me know... - Ant :)
New Music Suggestion: Richard Buckner's album "Devotion + Doubt"
He has been compared to Gram Parsons, and those of you who like Steve
Earle will probably really like this album. It has a little bit of
'twang' but it's definitely not a country album. Great lyrics - gentle
mood. Try it!
