I'm glad to find a source of info on such a great musician. To Kenley, I'd be willing to volunteer to do the new subscriber list. Probably every other week, as I recently got married and am easily distracted by other things ;). To Antonio, I'll be taping the show this Saturday off KCET in L.A. E-mail me and we could figger something out. Also to anyone interested, I was just up at the Strawberry Music Festival outside Yosemite. Emmylou played a great set, and I got it on tape (although the end of Deeper Well got cut off - slouch...). She played with Buddy Miller, Daryl Johnson and Brady Blade. Buddy and the rhythm section were much tighter than when I last saw them in L.A. last spring. For the encore, Victor Wooton and Future Man from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones joined them on bass and hand drum. It was a great show, and its great seeing her combine what she learned from DL with a lot of earlier material - including a rocking, Cajun arrangement of Bill Monroe's "Get Up John." I'd be willing to make copies for anyone interested. The levels are a bit low, but I'm going to try to fix up a master with boosted levels and reduce the hiss. This recording features some of the Lanois posse in the backing band. I have an extra CD that I'm looking to trade for some good quality live Lanois. I had heard the song "Naked Eye" on the radio a lot and I couldn't hear the Lanois influence, so I waited this long to go buy the album. Of course, now that I have heard the album I am kicking myself for not getting it a year ago! It is great! The song "Naked Eye" is a different version than the one they play on the radio, and it is much better. This may all be old news to all of you, but just in case you were debating on getting this album, DO! If you like U2's "Pop" album, you'll like this one. If I could describe it as food, I'd say that "Fever In Fever Out" is a "Lanois flavored 'Pop'sicle, without the Edge's licks!" Give it a try! Oh, and by the way, if you haven't heard "Pop" yet, or if you listened to it once and then put it on a shelf, GET IT, LISTEN to it more! U2 may not be the same live "fire up their ass" band they were ten years ago, but "Pop" is an inspiring album, full of new tricks and great bass lines, with vocals that cannot even be touched by anyone else. Anyone wishing to discuss these albums, or recommend some more good music to me, give me an e-mail, I'd love to talk. gmanmatt@aol.com P.S. Stay away from Sarah McLaughlin's (hope I spelled it right) new CD, unless you want a good laugh. I think on track 3 she attempts a "Daniel Lanois Solo", it is pretty hideous! I am a musician who is interested in trying to reproduce some of his sounds as faithfully as possible. Do you know anyone who has lists of the equipment and settings he uses?(I play electric and acoustic quitar). Thanks Very Much, John Castleberry (TN) [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sat, 06 Sep 1997 21:05:53 -0500 From: "PHIL O'CONNELL" Subject: Welcome to Sessions at West 54th http://www.sessionsatwest54th.com/ ... O.k. Here's the deal, please excuse me if this was asked before. This is what happened this weekend, I went to the record store and in the used bin, I found 1 used Acadie and 2 used Beauty of Wynonas. I was too busy whining about who would have traded these CDs in when an hour later after I came home, it hit me. Of the two copies of Wynona, one was a promotional one and the other (YUP!) had no "American Edition" printed across her breasts. Here's my question, and I know this will really put myself in an odd position, just how valuable is the CD without AE printed across? I know there are several of you who want this copy..... Does anyone else know if this was a local flub-up, or national? Good News: I went to the Sessions' Web sight (cool) and found a Lanois screensaver for download this week only. Go to: http://www.sessionsatwest54th.com/september6/sessions.html (In the meantime, I want to see if they will replay the show - sniff-sniff.)
