Lisa Germano's MB disc is pretty special.
Charlie Sexton's MB disc is excellent as well. I would say far better
than Chris Whitley's discs...Chris is a bit too testosterone for me...
And there is a young artist with great promise out of Austin who is
greatly influenced by DL. His name is David Garza, though his band has
at times been known as "Dah-Veed", and also "The Love Beads". His sound
is also very David Byrne and Los Lobos, it makes for a great mix....Look
for a Major Release in '98 (he already has about ten self-released works
out there).
Peace, Lanoisciples...

Hi Kenley, Hi Group!

It's been quite a while since I've been connected to the net, (and the DL
digest!), about a year and a half. I'm really happy to see that it, and
everyboudy on it is still going strong!

Anyhow, regarding Lisa's posting on the last digest, list of Malcom
projects, she made a few recommendations, but didn't include one of my
favs. So I thought I'd take the opportunity to give them an honorable
mention!

#8 on her list was the Canadian band Blue Rodeo, the CD she listed was
Diamond Mine (Among thier Best). They're an excellent group, with a really
great sound/ very original in their tastes and approach (the 2 guitarists
also share the singing duties, and also harmonize quite beautifully on some
tracks! - it keeps things quite fresh!). I highly recommend everybody give
them a listen, and Diamond Mine is definately a great place to start! One
more thing, there aren't very many CD's that I enjoy listening to from the
first track to the last (and on a regular basis), Aside from Daniel, but
Blue Rodeo recordings are definately among the ones I do enjoy often!

Anyhow, that's it for now,
Latcho Drom!

Been reading the Acadie newletter for awhile and thought I would add my own
twist about Dan. Discovered him when I found U2. I thought of him as only
a producer and then one day I found a copy of "Acadie" and I was a fan.

Anyways heard that he was going to play a concert at Barrymore's in Ottawa
one night. Could not believe my luck, called a friend, called for tickets
and we were off. The show was excellent and was also being recorded for a
future tape. He actually apologised for having to repeat a few songs for
the tape. It was a scarafice but someone had to do it.

After the show was over, Dan said to the audience that he had family here to
visit and he thanked everyone for coming. Lucky for me, Dan happened to
cross my path later that night. We only chatted for a few minutes but it
was great for me. I told him how much I enjoyed the show and wished him
luck for the future, then told him I would not keep him since he had family
to visit. He thanked me for my thoughtfulness and for coming to the show,
in the dead of a Canadian winter.

It was only a few minutes but I enjoyed meeting Dan.

As an added bonus to that show, Crash Vegas was the opening act, and I
became a fan of them too.

I only saw Dan one other time, it was at the Road Show in Quebec, I won the
tickets on the radio station. Unfortunately, the crowd did not seem as
enthralled with Dan's part of the show as some of us but I thought it was a
highlight.

Anyways, thanks for your hard work on this newsletter, I look forward to it
each week. I wonder though, do you think Dan is part of cyber space and he
reads this????

Burn has also produced The Devlins' "Drift" (1993), except for one track
produced by R. Bell. It's a very nifty album. If I remember well, Colin
Devlin said in interview that DL was working in the studio at the same
time, but he very kindly left the place to Malcolm and the Devlins. CD was
very grateful to DL and just couldn't stop thanking him during the
interview. The Devlins' second album has been produced by Pierre Marchand.

Dear Acadie
About six weeks ago I had asked for help in identifying and then acquiring a song off DL's ROCKY WORLD video called You're Gonna Need Someone....which manages to get the little hairs on the back of the neck stand up straight! Great stuff. Anyway, some fellow DL admirer had asked for me to send them a copy of ROCKY WORLD on video. I have finally recorded it and am ready to send it off..............only problem is that I have deleted the address, name and e mail of the guy who had asked me for it. PLEASE if you read this and are still interested in getting hold of ROCKY WORLD, please get in touch so that I can sent it to you..................no charge, no strings attached.

Hi all,

This tidbit isn't that newsworthy, but after participating silently in
this newsletter I thought I'd say "hi" and contribute something... I
happened to get started on my Lanois admiration at a used CD vendor's
table, where I found a copy of Acadie. Having read every word on every
U2 CD booklet, I knew who Lanois was and picked up Acadie for a mere $8,
on an impulse buy. It turns out I got a promo copy (you know, "not for
sale") with a beautiful image of a guitar printed on the CD. Has anyone
else seen this? I bought the album for a friend once and was
disappointed to see it was a plain ol' silver CD with the standard text
on it. Were any of the commercial CDs printed with the image?

Also, I got my copy of Cool Water in Argentina, of all places, also
purely by coincidence... This seems to be a recurrent theme.

Thanks to all for the great information posted in the newsletter.

Hi Lanois fans!

It's been a while since my last message on the newsletter and
usually,
I post a message only when there his something I have to say, but lately
their his a subject that made me think that some of us don't understand
Daniel
work as much has they think. It's that dark thing in his work that seems
to bother
some people. There his nothing wrong with that, actually, I think that's
one of
the major things with his spiritual side, that makes us love his work so
much.
I myself, have that dark side very develop and well under control and
it's actually
helping me a lot in the work I do. It doesn't meen I'm a «monster». I'm
very well
balance and actually quite «normal». Daniel knows how to use it and it's
something
about him that fascinates me. His darkness his in some way a light and
if you listen
carefully to what he does you will too «see» that LIGHT as well has a
lot's
of other extraordinary things.

I would also like to mention that « Hey people, he his a human being,
not perfect,
so it meens that like us he can have a bad day once in while»(in
response
to a message posted a couple of weeks a go) We seems to forget that
underneath
that great artist there his a guy who like us must face life everyday
with
what it brings of joy and problems. I do know one thing for shure,
Dan his a great person (know that for a fact) and working with him his
something
I'm shure that can be «UNFORGETTABLE».

Dear Acadians:

For those interested in Malcolm Burns' terrific production work, you should check out Blue Rodeo's "Diamond Mine" (1989). Blue Rodeo is an excellent Canadian band which just cannot seem to break into the American market, and so you will need to actively seek this out (unless you're in Canada). Although I have and love all of their music, this is probably their best stuff (it's the only one which Malcolm Burn produced).

Enjoy!
