Just a quick note to let you know the most recent news on Daniel.
Daniel has just finished mixing 4 songs for Scott Weiland - his
solo
project. This is due to release next year first quarter on
Atlantic.
Scott Weiland is the singer from Stone Temple Pilots (I believe).

One of my favorites is Francis Cabrel's "Samedi Soir Sur la
Terre." You
may not find it in record stores, but you should be able to get
it mail
order or through one of the online music stores like CDNow. I'd
recommend this album to any of you Lanois fans. The music and
lyrics
both remind me of DL, and carry the same emotional power.

Well, for one thing, there is no "control" of the Dark
Side. The function
of unconscious forces is to be just that: unconscious. If you've
got yours
under control, that's not balance -- that's boredom.
Daniel's dark side is definitely NOT under control. It's the
unknown, the
mystery which fascinates us. That's the draw of his music.

If anyone gets word of D.L. appearing at the Jazz Fest in LA.,
spread
the word! He was great in that venue several years ago- I would
love to
see him again.
Spirituality, Darkness, Intensity, Passion, Uninhibited Joy, this
is
what drew me to D.L. and his music. Much the same as Brian Eno
drew me.
I still have my old vinyls of Eno. Oh, the nostalgia.....
Thanks Kenley and the ghost writer who is helping with the
newsletter.
Great Job!

Some comments re : Acadie #95
1) Winona is an orchard town, noted for its apple/peach/grape
output. In
recent years, housing developments have been eating away the
farmland.
2) Dan, Bob, Ron,Jocelyneand their mom Jill originally lived in
Ancaster , a
small town slightly southwest of Hamilton.Their mom used to run a
hairdressing salon (my mom used to go there!) on the main drag
(Wilson Street)
3) Re: "dark side" At least once a year, usually around
Christmastime, I run
into DL. During our chats , I usually hit some kind of nerve, at
which point
I get the "long stare". Then I remember some of the
stunts he and Bob used to
pull in the 70s and 80s and I BACK OFF QUICK.
4) Did you know older brother Bob is a producer in his own right?
Check out a
cut-out copy of Simply Saucer's Cyborgs Revisited (1992 CD
release on
Fistpuppet/Cargo U.S.) The liner notes explain all...

Heureuse de lire que tu as plaisir a ecouter notre langue. I was
intrigued
when I read that the McGarrigle sisters have been invited to
Kingsway
studio (for WB). I thought that I should give them a second
listening and
bougth their CD "Matapedia". There's not much French on
it, but it's a nice
folk album (just not dark enough, maybe!!!). Fun to compare their
own
version of their song "Goin' back to Harlan" with EH's.
And the lyrics of
the song "Jacques et Gilles" have something Lanoiesque.
I recommend "Cap
enrage", the last French CD of Zachary Richard. Written by a
Cajun, and
dedicated to all the Acadiens. For those always looking for the
Lanois
connection, Bill Dillon plays on a few tracks.

I'm looking for an explanation of a line in the Daniel Lanois
song "Under a
Stormy Sky." I'm puzzled about the line - "I hear the
T.H. & B" which is
followed by "the diesel turning calling you and me."
Can you explain?
I couldn't figure it out from listening to the song and came up
with "I hear
the teach of Gee (Guy)" which makes no sense to me either.
Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated.
