Hey, here is an in-depth Lanois interview from the UCLA musicology department on-line periodical Echo. It even includes some musical examples to illustrate the points Lanois makes. Also look at the same publication for a fascinating appraisal of the sound characteristics of modern country recordings and the pivotal influence of Wrecking Ball on other recordings:
